Esta ubicado en Huamachuco, La Libertad, Peru. Tiene una extensión geográfica de 99.5 Km2 y con una población que en año 2000 era 7935, dándonos una densidad poblacional de 79.75 habitantes por Km2.
Todos los miércoles de cada semana es día de feria, ahí se negocian a trueque o a venta, ganado vacuno, equino y lanar. Pero además es un día de distracción para el pueblo, casi una fiesta. Ahí la gente tiene la posibilidad de ofrecer su arte textil, culinario y sobre todo de interrelacionarse con el resto y con los visitantes.
El 3 de Mayo, en la plaza central de Curgos se celebra la procesión al Señor de los Milagros, que es como su fiesta patronal, aquí mismo el 8 de Diciembre se celebra la procesión a La Virgen Campesina de Curgos. El 4 de Octobre tambien se celebra la fiesta de San Francisco de Asís en la plazuela El Recreo de la parte alta del pueblo. El aniversario de la creación del distrito es el 13 de diciembre.
El acceso desde Huamachuco es rápido y fácil gracias a que hay movilidad cada media hora, el tiempo de viaje aproximado es de 35 minutos. Cuenta además con electricidad, televisión, teléfono, hotel, estación de radio, losas deportivas, etc. y por su puesto, con lugares turísticos cercanos que visitar, como los baños termales de El Edén y Yanasara, los cuales están conectados el pueblo con anchas y seguras carreteras.
