Formerly East Malaysia Operating Centre (EMOC) and also Kuching Regional's office of Tradewinds Plantation Berhad (TPB) is situated in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. Sabah/Lawas Region (SLR) is a regional office that operates from Lahad Datu, Sabah, Malaysia. EMOC and all Regional Office were closed down effective June 2015 and operates direct from Kuala Lumpur HQ.
Sarawak has more than 40 sub-ethnic groups, each with its own distinct language, culture and lifestyle. The Ibans form the largest percentage of Sarawak, almost 30%. Reputed to be the most formidable headhunters on the island of Borneo, the Ibans of today are a generous, hospitable and placid people. Because of their history as pirates and fishermen, they were conventionally referred to as the "Sea Dayaks". The Chinese make up 26% and consist of communities built from the economic migrants of the 19th and early 20th centuries. The Malays make up 21% of the population in Sarawak. Melanaus were fishermen and they are reputed as some of the finest boat-builders and craftsmen. They are ethnically different from the Malays, their lifestyles and practices are quite similar especially mostly has adopted the Islamic faith. The Bidayuhs make up 10% and historically, as other tribes were migrating into Sarawak and forming settlements the peace-loving, meek-natured Bidayuhs retreated further inland, hence earning them the name of "Land Dayaks". The word Bidayuh in itself literally means "land people". Orang Ulu is used to collectively describe the tribes that live upriver in Sarawak's vast interior which also include the Kayan, Kenyah, Kajang, Kejaman, Punan, Ukit, and Penan. The definition also includes the down-river tribes of the Lun Bawang, Lun Dayeh, Murut, Berawan, Saban as well as the plateau-dwelling Kelabits and Sebob/Chebob found in upper Tinjar river. The Orang Ulu group together make up roughly 5.5% of Sarawak's population.
