Esta construída en una especie de meseta triangular a 80m de altura, flanqueda por el mar a un lado, por los arrozales al otro, y por la hilera de cerros al fondo. Consta de más de 50 complejos arquitectónicos, con pirámides truncas. Fue el centro religioso y poder político más importante del valle Jequetepeque, en su época de gloria. Esta ciudad sagrada ha merecido la atención de científicos alemanes, rusos, japoneses y norteamericanos.
